Free Family Fun & Food!
The Children’s Garden Festival which took place in Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, near Fillmore & N. Parade, celebrated the beauty and attractions of fall gardens.
Children and families were invited to come learn about planting bulbs, composting, fall fruits and vegetables, and how they can be good environmental stewards in their own neighborhoods.
There was free food, giveaways, children’s bike repairs, games, music, entertainment, and environmental, horticultural and garden-related educational activities with a goal of bringing neighbors together.
The 2023 Festival was co-presented by the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy.

East Side Garden Walk
The Children’s Garden Festival grew out of the 2022 East Side Garden Walk (ESGW), an event that encourages visitors and neighbors to walk, drive, or bike Buffalo’s East Side, learning about the resilience of this community. More than a garden tour, the ESGW is a way for residents to take control of the narrative for its community. They share gardens, stories, and a spirit of perseverance with those from within and outside its neighborhood – countering the negative stigma often portrayed on the news – by creating positive stories. Love of gardening and community creates connections between gardeners, neighbors, and visitors. The ESGW transforms its neighborhoods by providing a spotlight for residents to "show out" and by encouraging everyone to be the change, because this community matters.
